CFA Society Singapore announces the appointment of new Office Bearers, and welcomes two new members to the Board of Directors
CFA Society Singapore (‘the Society”) is pleased to announce newly elected Office Bearers, who will be serving a two-year term, effectively immediately. Following the conclusion of the 35th Annual General Meeting, the Society is pleased to announce the following Office Bearers:
- President: Simon Ng, CFA
- Deputy President: Alex Ho, CFA
- Secretary: Laurel Teo, CFA
- Treasurer: Koh Boon Pin, CFA
For the current Board term, Mr. Simon Ng, CFA, will succeed Ms. Tan Lay Hoon, CFA, as President of the Society effective immediately.
Simon has been an active volunteer of the Society since 2013, and has been involved in different committees as Co-Chair and Chair. In 2015, he joined the board and served as Honorary Secretary in 2016. Later in 2018, he assumed the role of Deputy President.
In handing over the presidency to Simon, Ms. Tan said, “I have had a fulfilling 3 years serving as President of CFA Society Singapore. The time is ripe for me to pass the baton to my Deputy President, Simon Ng, CFA, as I have largely accomplished what I set out to do, that is, (i) To strengthen our partnership and collaboration with CFA Institute; and (ii) To professionalise our Secretariat for our board to move from an operational to a strategic board.” On Simon’s succession, she said, “I am confident that Simon will lead the Society and navigate it into its next phase of growth.”
In accepting the position of president, Simon Ng said, “I feel honoured and humbled to be elected as the next President of CFA Society Singapore. I look forward to working with CFA Society Singapore’s group of passionate Board, staff and volunteers to create meaningful impact for our members and industry through enhancing professional learning, delivering quality content and training.”
In addition, Esther Thng, CFA, and Connie Ong, CFA, have been newly elected onto the Board of Directors.
Esther Thng, CFA, is currently Head of Education for ASEAN ANZ in ACCA with education oversight in more than ten countries. She has extensive experience in the accountancy education industry prior to joining ACCA. She had worked with a global learning provider as a lecturer before becoming the Academic Director looking after national and global accountancy and finance professional qualifications such as ACCA and others. Esther has served as the Co-Chairperson of the Candidate Programme Committee for the last four years.
Connie Ong’s career has spanned more than 30 years in the audit, research, asset management and wealth management industries, and across Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. Her last role prior to retirement from full time employment was as Executive Director and Market Head of UBS AG. Connie hopes to contribute by sharing her wealth of experiences for the benefit of CFA. Over the last two years, she has been active as a mentor in the Society’s Mentorship Programme. Connie has also been appointed as Chairperson of the University Outreach Committee.
Tan Lay Hoon, CFA, and Rasik S. Ahuja, CFA, will be stepping down from their leadership roles as President and Secretary, respectively. The Society has benefitted from their efforts in professionalising the Society and for taking the first steps of transforming the Board from one focussed on operational matters to one more focussed on strategic issues. Although both have relinquished their roles as Office Bearers, Tan Lay Hoon, CFA, and Rasik S. Ahuja, CFA, will continue to serve on the board for the upcoming term from 2021 to 2023. Tan Lay Hoon, CFA, has been appointed as Chairperson of the Nominating Committee, while Rasik S. Ahuja, CFA will continue to chair the Candidate Programme Committee.
Joachim Toh, CFA, and Jack Wang Ying Yang, CFA, have completed their terms on the Board. In his last position, Joachim contributed his expertise as Chair of the Investment Committee while Jack contributed as Co-Chairperson of the University Outreach Programme. On their retirement, Simon Ng, CFA said, “I would like to thank Joachim and Jack for their dedicated and tireless service to the community. “
