CFA Society Singapore is embarking on an initiative called, ‘ESG Year 2021’!
It is my pleasure to bring to local members as well as to the regional community quarterly-themed ESG events.
We kick off the first quarter with ESG 101. This is targeted at finance professionals who have yet to be acquainted with ESG. Feedback from the ground points to a fairly sizeable portion of us who need to start from ground zero.
The subsequent quarters will have something for everyone who is either embarking or already on the ESG path.
By December, if participants follow our programme, we are confident that they will be well prepared to embark on their ESG journey. For those who are already on that path, we hope to give you even more confidence and tools to continue the journey.
To this end, we are optimistic of rolling out a CFA ESG micro-credentialling programme, like the CFA programme, later this year to enhance your understanding of the financial markets. We are also confident that the CFA disclosure standards on ESG matters, which will be rolled out in the near future, would complement and make better sense of the array of disclosure requirements on ESG.
Please take this opportunity to learn, incorporate, and put into practice what is indeed needed to build a better society in Singapore and the region.

HOW TO GET STARTED ON ESG
For those who are convinced ESG is the way to go, how do we get started?
MONITORING & ENGAGING
This is an essential step. How can we be assured if investee companies are indeed doing what they claim they are doing?
Disclosure is signalling. It also allows comparison. Definitely an important step in the entire ESG process.
